Prepare Your File

File Specifications for Booklets.
Save Your File Correctly
Export your artwork as PDF/X-3 for the best color accuracy and reliable printing results. Alternatively you can send us JPEG or TIFF files. Adobe Photoshop users should always save their files as JPEG or TIFF. If a Photoshop PDF is required, please use Acrobat Distiller to create the PDF (you may download our Acrobat JobOptions further down this page in the templates section). Please never save a PDF directly from Photoshop.
Portrait or Landscape
Ensure your file matches the selected size and orientation (portrait or landscape). If your file differs from the ordered size, it may be resized automatically unless you add the Trim to Custom Size service.
Page Count
The total number of pages must be a multiple of 4 (e.g., 28, 32, 36 pages, including covers). If necessary, blank pages can be added during upload to reach the required total.
Page Setup
Prepare your document as single pages only, in reading order:
- Page 1 = Front Cover
- Page 2 = Inside Front Cover
- Pages 3–n = Content Pages
- Inside Back Cover
- Back Cover
Bleed, Trim & Safety Areas
Please ensure your booklet's file has the following dimensions:
- Trim size 5.5” x 8.5”: The product currently selected in the configurator above on this page will be delivered in these dimensions.
- Bleed size 5.70” x 8.70”: Include + 1/10" on all four sides. This is the bleed that will be trimmed. Extend background images and graphics beyond this area.
- Safe Zone: Keep all text and key elements at least 1/12" from the trim edge to prevent being trimmed.
RGB vs CMYK
Use CMYK only. Files in RGB or with spot colors will be automatically converted, which may cause colors to appear different from the original booklet file.
The total ink coverage (C+M+Y+K) must not exceed 300% to ensure proper drying and prevent pages from sticking.
- For black or gray text, use only the K channel.
- For a rich black, use 40C / 0M / 0Y / 100K or 30/30/30/100.
Image Resolution - Avoid Blurry Images
Images resolution need to be minimum 150 dpi (recommended 300 dpi) to ensure sharp, high-quality results. Avoid low-resolution or pixelated images.
Fonts
Use PostScript fonts for offset printing. If TrueType fonts are used, convert them to outlines (also known as paths or curves) to avoid rendering issues.

Saddle Stitching
Pages are folded and stapled along the center, ideal for creating a clean, flat-opening book with a neat finished edge, making it a cost-effective choice for magazines, event programs, and promotional materials.
Perfect Binding
Pages are glued to a square spine, ideal for thicker custom booklets, catalogs, and premium publications. With perfect binding, a separate spine file is required, with width based on page count and paper type.

Which file formats can I upload for printing?
We accept PDF, JPEG, and TIFF file formats for all booklet orders. For best results, we recommend including the correct bleed and setting your file to a CMYK color profile. We also recommend exporting your final design as a high-resolution PDF to ensure the most accurate layout and color reproduction.
Do you provide booklet printing templates?
Yes, we offer free downloadable design templates for Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign on the product page. Each template includes the correct dimensions, bleed margins, and color settings. We accept finished artwork in PDF, JPEG, or TIFF format.
How many pages can I print in a booklet?
We produce custom booklets ranging from 8 to 320 pages. The total page count must always be a multiple of four, and we include both covers in that count. This range lets us accommodate everything from concise guides to comprehensive product catalogs.
What binding options do you offer for booklets?
We offer two professional binding options. With saddle stitching, we staple pages along the center fold. This works well for publications up to 100 pages. With perfect binding, we glue pages to a flat spine. We recommend this for thicker booklets of 36 pages or more. Both options produce a durable, professional finish.
Can I place different designs or items in the same order?
You can easily include multiple designs in a single order. After configuring your first booklet, duplicate the item in your cart and adjust the artwork or specifications for each version. We automatically group items shipping to the same address to reduce your delivery costs.
Can I get a printed sample before placing a large order?
We offer a free sample kit that showcases our available paper stocks, finishes, and print quality. You can request one at any time through our Samples page.
Some of our booklet products are available without a minimum order quantity enabling you to order a single sample directly from the configurator. However, please keep in mind that short-run quantities may be printed digitally, unlike the offset printing of your main run later on. Since digital and offset printing are different, there will likely be small differences in color, paper, and production finish between your samples and final print.
How long will it take to receive my printed booklets?
Production times usually vary based on quantity and the options you select. We display exact turnaround dates in our live calendar within the pricing calculator. Most orders ship within 2-3 weeks, and we track all shipments to ensure timely, secure delivery.
Can I track my order once it ships?
Once your order leaves our facility, we send a tracking number by email. You can use it to monitor your shipment's progress in real time and view the estimated delivery date. We work with trusted carriers to ensure safe, on-time arrival.
Will the price per booklet decrease if I order more?
Larger quantities result in a lower price per unit. Our offset printing process carries a fixed setup cost that we spread across the full print run, making higher quantities significantly more cost-efficient. This works particularly well for bulk marketing campaigns and large-scale distribution.
Do I need a separate spine file for perfect bound booklets?
We require a separate spine file for perfect bound booklets, in addition to your cover and interior page files. We calculate spine width based on your page count and the thickness of your selected paper.
